Hi

After a day at KORC today, I managed to remove my drivers side rear bumper trim! (the one at the end of the bumper holding the reflector) on a small cliff!!! its damaged beyond repair!!

Has anyone removed these before, I'm now thinking about welding some plate on to smooth it out, but im worried about the next MOT.:(

Also the bumper lights, are they needed for an MOT?

Any help would be great please!
Thanks

Adam

Right got you now, I have seen aftermarket rear bumpers with no lights I just wondered if they were off road only!

Looks like Ill get the mig out and get chopping!

Cheers Mad hat man. :)

The early discos had no bumper lights. From memory, the later bumper just has repeaters from the main light cluster. So long as you have one legal set of lights they don't have to be the originals. In the past we've rebuilt the rear end (of a Bedford) using the standard round lights you find on minis and daleks. No MOT problem.

Yes sorry - I was including reflectors in "a full set of lights". Again though they don't have to be on the bumper, and there used to be plenty of them around that just fit flush on the bodywork - drill a hole and put a nut on the back. I think we used DAF ones! You just have to make sure they're big enough.

There are regs about how high things can be and how close to the side of the vehicle, but that should be easy to check.

It depends on the age of your car. Some 300TDi's...e.g. mine only have indicators in the bumper. So if you are going to have a bumper with no lights you need to check that you have indicators in the lights on the rear wings and if not you will need some new light units for the wings.

Humm, it looks like I have both brakes and indicators in the bumper (plus the reflectors) however these are all duplicated on the main rear lights! (not inc reflectors)

Ill have to look into it some more regarding the position of the lights!

cheers all

For the price of an end cap 4 bumper you could get complete bumper with caps on from breakers . If new bumper has indicators were origial didn`t reduce bulb watage (this stops trailer light flashing with no trailer)
