Hi all
Just been stoped by a neighbour his ignition key is not turning the barrel
on his disco 1. Tryed the spare key still no joy.
can you get the ignition barrel out
without too much fuss or do you have to take all the ignition/steering lock
assembly off?

Thanks in advance

Icky

IIRC you need to have a working key to turn it in order to remove it
from the lock mechanism.

Hi Icky

It is a well known problem with the locks, but what I did was undo the two
bolts holding the lock on, and ordered a new one from the dealers, and I
ordered the same key number lock and fitted that.

But I beleive the problem is with the keys wearing out, so if you get new
keys(not cut from the worn one) from the dealer from the details then it
might cure it.

Mine does this occasionally ... worn keys appears to be the 'real' answer
but I get round it, as it's an infrequent occurrence, by simply jiggling the
key in the lock whilst also working the steering wheel against the steering
lock.

What did it cost, out of interest?
