Disco 1 200 tdi - Offside Front oil leaking excessively

Hi all,

My Disco 1 200tdi has failed the mot for leaking oil excessively from the offside front tranmission.

Any thoughts as to why this might be or any common weak failure?

Transfer box to front prop shaft oil seal, usually the flange gets a groove in it and the seal gets hard over time,
Worth replacing both, not a difficult job to do,

Yes that’s the one but check the flange for wear, if it is then not expensive to replace,

Hi when I did mine I used the old flange and dust cover to push in the new seal, but putting a 5 mm nuts as a spacer between the dust cover and flange and cut
off the nylock part of the old nut to make it easier to put on and off it worked a treat and put the new seal in fully and square and no damage
