Currently experiencing difficulty selecting 1st gear when trying to move off, sometimes have to select 2nd then put it into 1st, or sometimes just move off in 2nd. Selecting reverse is rather a crunchy event, not pleasant!! - the neighbours love it.....

Am I in gearbox trouble or might there be a simple fix ?

Cheers
:D

Im a bit concerned after reading that - I supposedly just had my clutch changed as it was so stiff to operate it was almost undriveable. Since it has returned from the garage the clutch bites a cm or so from the bottom of the pedal - although I can easily change gear on the move without having my clutch pedal to the floor - is it a trip back to the garage?

Sorry for thread hijacking!

The lower the biting point the newer the clutch (assuming the hydraulics are all ok). If the gear change is ok then it sounds like the hydraulics are fine.

From your descriptiom it sounds like your clutch is normal

The problem I had, and by the sound of it Meagson is having too, is that the clutch is not fully disengaging. With the engines drive still getting through to the gearbox the synchomesh is rendered useless and gear engagement becomes difficult if not impossible.

This is not a failing in the clutch, bit in the release mechanism.

Hope that helps. :D

i would agree,it sounds like the release arm, this was the same symptoms as mine and a heavy pedal and i fitted a new clutch but it was the release arm which was seized and luckily we my m8 noticed before we refitted box otherwise it would still be the same!i would put money on it being the release arm, unfortuatley the only way to sort is to remove the box and remove arm and clean/free off!!
