Hi guys, got a new problem today. :( My 1996 4.0 is having difficulty starting, you have to hold the accelerator to the floor and crank it over. It will then start for a couple of seconds and die. I have to repeat this about 4/5 times before it will actually run, at this point it will misfire. No known problems when its actually running just initially starting it. Any suggestions?? Thought it may be due to the fact I hadnt used it for a couple of days as by the time I had done 15 miles to work it started as normal. But on the return journey of 15 miles and half hour rest it failed to fire up straight away.

I've got the exact same problem, just started since the weather got really cold, don't know if that is just a coincidence. Hopefully someone has the solution..

As Rasheed says might be worth cleaning the maf did mine the other day it was filthy made a whole heap of difference to the running - not sure if it affects start up no doubt someone will be along to let you know.

thanks guys, it is really weird used it quite a bit today and this is what happened; Come out to go to work 8am. started first turn. Nipped to the shop 8.05am. Stuck outside the shop. 15 mile drive to work. 9.30am went to out to collect something for work 13mile round trip. Started first turn. 11.15am went to collect some tyres wouldnt start. Had to pull it in the workshop to check oil level. 11.20am, wouldnt start again. 20 mile round trip to brum and back from Wolverhampton. Wouldnt start at birmingham. 4.00pm, went to fill her up. wouldnt start. 4.10pm started first time at petrol station. 4.20pm left work and started again. ???? Really weird.. looks like Im going to have to give it a mini service and hope it cures it

this sounds more like camshaft and crankshaft position sensors. i'd say its time to hook her up to testbook (or similar) and get a full report.
