Differentials

Hi
I've heard that RR diffs will fit a S3 and have the effect of an overdrive (but obviously in all gears and 4wd). Question is what diffs will fit a 1982 S3?

There seems to be several types out there - 2 pin, 4 pin, 10 spline, 24 spline.
Anyone got a definitive guide as to what diff out of what RR/Disco will fit?

You can only get either 10 or 24 spline drive flanges for S3 so that defines your options.

First question is it fitted with Rover or Salsbury diffs ? Next question what engine do you run ? 3.54 range rover diffs are OK with a good petrol or 200 tdi. Don't even consider them with a 2.25 diesel up front, I tried it and soon went back to 4.7s

So is there a definitive guide anywhere? I'd like to know too.

When I was a lad it was common to search for Rover P4 diffs of 4.3:1 ratio but on a series 4.7's and an overdrive is best. some good info here.
