Hi
Thinking of going for an early TD5 disco, but have loads of accessories on my 200TDi, such as HD bumpers, fuel tank guard, light bar & wheels. Will any of it fit a disco 2?
Having owned TDi200, 300 and now TD5 I feel well-placed to respond to your question.
I would offer a word of caution about early TD5's - they have been prone to a number of failures. If you are thinking early TD5 because they look cheap, there is a reason for that !!!
Blowing head gaskets due to plastic locating dowels, damaged engines due to oil pump bolts coming undone, leaking diesel rails within the head, etc etc. Be very careful about service history with these early cars.
Also checkfor rust on the chassis - the first one I bought (Doh!!) was really rather rotten.
If budget is king I would suggest going for a 1998 TDi 300, great cars, non-electronic, build quality improved over previous versions and good economy of fuel with cheap spare parts.
I love my new TD5, but it IS heavier on fuel. It is much more refined and the ACE system transforms the handling to the extent that it feels quite sporty.
The choice is yours of course, but early TD5's - had one, wouldn't have another.
Good luck
Dave
