Ive got a 300 disco, not quite sure how the little leaver infront of the gearstick is supposed to work, It changes from hi - lo no problem, but is it supposed to go sideways for the difflock? and if so which way is on and off? it wont budge sideways at all..

Thanks

move it to the left and diff is locked and an orange light comes on the dash, over to the right and the light goes out.

if its not moving over then chances are its siezed - get underneath and soak the linkage in WD40 for a couple of days, spraying it at least twice a day. then spend some time working the lever forward and back and side to side, its gonna be stiff so use a bit of force. once its loose then make sure to use hi/lo and diff lock at least once a month to make sure it stays loose and free.
