Hi There
I have a facelift (04) Discovery TD5, on the instruction plate next to Hi/Lo ratio Gear shift, it says to engage diff lock move gear shift to left then select diff lock forward or back, there seems to be no movement to the left, does this mean that diff lock is engaged automatically , as there is no light to indicate it is on
Thanks in advance

I also have a 2004 facelift Disco 2 (Landmark) and it doesn't have CDL either.
It has the label and I believe the internals in the transfer box but it doesn't have the external stuff, nor will the hi/lo lever move to the left.

The theory was that the electronic traction control is as good or better, and in many cases although not all it might actually be better.

It's not the lack of use but the lack of lubrication that the selector doesn't engage.

The first time I used my diff-lock was in the winter 2011-12 and it slipped in and out with out an probs, I haven had to use it since but again in functions ok still, perhaps it's because I once emptied a spray can of Waxoyl over the the select mechanism.:)

CDL was a £270 option on the Landmark and standard on the ES Premium I was at the time thinking about getting one or the the other.:)

Just because you have the CDL instruction plate, doesn't mean you have it.

Does the the lever itself have the "H" shaped Diff lock markings or just H-N-L?

Also if it has the diff lock the lever will be leant over to the right when unlocked, non CDL sits in the center all the time as it only has fore/aft movement.

lastly check the transfer box itself above the front prop output as below:

In a 2004 the box should match the one on the right (D1 but makes no difference, just means it's lacking the high/low sensor). You will either have a linkage connected to that spigot or not.

If you DO have the linkage then it's probably seized through lack of use like others have said. Copious amounts of penetrating fluid and a touch of brute force needed.

Thank you all for the comments, it would appear that it is not fitted as the lever does not have the *H*
