I can't get the diff lock unstuck and cooked the rear prop donut. I removed the rear prop and took it to the local garage man who can;t unstick it and reckons he now needs to drop the gear box to have a go.

Is there a knack to unstick the diff lock?

Cheers
Rob

I would take the center console out first and check if you can unstick it, better then dropping the box.

no need to remove centre console, or might be easier i cant remember what i did now it was 2 year ago. but you need to gain access to the transfer gear lever mech. which is below the lever, theres a shaft in a housing which moves side to side engaging and disengaging diff-lock. this seizes up and you can remove it by removing the 4 bolts and getting it in a vise and keep trying to work it with a big bar and use plenty of freeing oil. once it starts moving side to side clean the shaft with some sand paper. im 100% sure this is your problem as if its not used for a while it seizes up

Of course if yu could be bothered to look, LZ has it's own FAQ section and in there is a " How to free up your difflock" thread. Although why we bother to post stuff is is beyond me, if you can't be arsed to look:mad:.

I did mine a month ago, its either drop the box or remove consol. took me an hour from start to finish, you will need to drill out some pop rivits and replace them think they were 4mm dia but may hace been 5mm. It was so stuck when is was in the vice i had to use a club hammer on it.

however this may not be the case in this post as it was stuck "in" diff lock so it must have been put in ok and then not been able to get it out. i would still remove consol and investigate.

Mad Hat Man,

I can only assume you gained your senior status buy simply criticising others, if not, maybe you could share your knowledge rather than poking fun at those who as yet, don't have your superiority.

Yes I did try the search and FAQ section but being new to LR's, there were far too many responses relating to numerous vehicles, not just Disco's.

Tell me, do you get hypoxia being so high on your soap box!!!!!!!!

To those who replied with constructive comments to my post, thank you.

oooooo ever so sorry :behindsofa:

when yu put as much effort into this site as some of the regulars and see the same Q posted as often is this one has, maybe your comment will be of some interest.

whats the biggest wheels I can fit on a disco and my freelander is smoking from wheel arch are too prime favourites

i did mine this afternoon following MHM's guide, it took 3 hours and i am NOT mechanically minded. I have been putting it off but wish i hadn't now, it was realativley simple.
