Diff Lock Selection (again)

Hi Chaps and before anyone starts I have already done numerous searches

I'm following the advice laid down by numerous bearded and sage like members who have gone before.

I've WD40'd the linkages after crawling under the Disco and adding an extra arm joint. Still seems to be stuck, low to high is now lovely and slick but no joy with locking the diffs.

Now to be fair I've started finding loads of gremlins since buying this one just over a year ago, like only just realising the ABS light was removed (DOH!). so I don't think this has been well used in that respect.
Are there any other things I could be looking at to get the lever to shift side ways? It just won't budge.

As always I have thick skin but there is no need to be too insulting :baby:

you need to fremove consol and rubber gaiter covering tunnel , remove diff lock linkage remove 4 bolts holding hi/lo housing remove hi/lo linkage ,the cross shaft in housing seizes in opposite side to linkage aluminum cap ,sometimes you can free as an assembly ,sometimes you need to strip ,cap can be removed by undoing 2 cross head screws impact driver often needed ,or if wont budge remove lever ant tap shaft through linkage side

As James says .. and when you put it back together use shed-loads of grease to stop water/****e getting in. Sounds hard, but it's a relatively easy job, if a little fiddly.

excellent, that sounds like a good next step. Sadly Hayes is very lacking in this area.
I'll give that a go later this evening and see how we get on.
I have to say that while the amount of problems on the disco are largely down to the previous owner being a weasel, I do love working on it as it is generally quite straight forward.

tap - I had to smack mine with a sledge hammer - one of the compulsory tools needed when owning a disco

a lot of stuff is down to poor servicing and practice ,as you will know wont seize up if regulary operated ,if you look at a lot of other failures its down to poor/ contaminated or lack of oils grease etc

I love working on mine

It has brought an entirely new lexicon of swear words and pirate like curses that are usually accompanied by scuffed knuckles, oily stuff on the driveway and the missus making sleep in the spare room until I no longer smell of Landrover and have clean up that mess off the drive!

Much better that my old Toyo for sure.

Rain stopped play and I have no garage/barn in which to work, will give it a go next week now copious amounts of oil made low to hi selection much easier

Hi Chaps,

Quick update on the state of play.
I crawled through the large pool of water and gave every thing a dem good soaking in a product called Releaseall, stipped out the cabin gubbins as suggested repeated said soaking and that it certainly did. The lever moved side ways, felt like the diff was locked but no dash light. Next I will change all the LED's in the dash (except the ABS) and revisit the switch situation.

Will get the Disco (named BGT) onto the dunes and see what happens from there.
