Hi all, just wondering if anyone has had this problem with the diff lock - I noticed today that when the lever is in high and diff lock off, if I push the lever over to the left it goes straight into diff lock, without going forward a bit into neutral then left and then back into diff lock as it should be, seems to be something wrong with the gate/selector, never really done much on the gearbox/transfer box before so any ideas?

Left for difflock right to disengage that was all my old 110 and disco ever did. It is only ever on or off. So it can't have a neutral loctaion. I think your confoosing high and low (which can be left in Neutral) with the difflock positioning..

not sure about that, there is a neutral between high and low, I just thought you had to go forward a bit before you could go over to the left to engage diff lock, maybe I'm talking crap though!

No you just push it straight across. You can engage/disengage Difflock at any speed you want. As long as you're not spinning your wheels. (snapped half shafts & knacked diffs if you are). So you wouldn't want to disengage hi/lo while you were operating the difflock lever. unlike HI/LO which has to be done when almost, if not completely stationary.

Thats ok then, I guess I don't have a problem after all, Thanks, just need to find out why my gearbox or transfer box whines so much now, really bugging me, Its been like that since I got it, not getting any louder just a pain in the arse, changed the oil and all that, no difference...

Is your diff lock warning light coming on? It should after a while (once it engages) you can test to see if its in by jacking up one wheel off the ground, just say on a trolley jack, engage the diff lock and try and drive forward (slowly) if you start to move forward the diff lock is engaged, if the wheel spins it’s not. Be careful not to drive off your jack, the reason for trolley jack is because it will roll slightly if you over cook it.

that's just what I was doing to check it was all working properly, I think it's fine just never realised that you could move the lever directly to diff lock without going up and over and then back in, suppose I've not had the need to use it to much so far, thanks though.

The handbook tells you not to select diff lock with the transfer box in the neutral position. Don't know why.
