This is my first auto tdi, when in neutral or park the diff lock light is on, as soon as i go into drive or reverse, it goes out. Is this normal or do i have a problem

cheers Dazza

With the car in neutral and the engine running, push the transfer lever as far forward as you can then put it into D release the brake slightly and go back to neutral and try to push the transfer lever the rest of the way, if that makes sense or get the car moving (under 5mph) put it into neutral and try to move transfer lever while rolling ...

Hi, high and low ratio work fine, just the diff lock light is on dash when in park or neutral, diff lock is not engaged, have checked on transfer box

It is possible that the wiring for the diff-lock has been 'pinched' between the bell-housing and the engine ... you'll have to get under it and do some investigation ...

run manual discos for years so not seen this before, deffo diff lock light, yes it has abs and that goes out no probs. Dont know if this is something peculiar to autos, or some kind of fault

Have you checked anything?

Wiring?

Sticky switch?

Diff lock has nothing to do with your gearbox, auto or manual, diff lock is a function of the transfer box, therefore u must have an electrical problem 'possibly' relating to the auto boxes inhibitor switch.

Not thought of that, would make sense, will have a check when finished work at end of week.
