Seen a few places on the internet saying you can replace hi low linkage with diff lock linkage from a tdi ?

Like that link above ?

What model of boxes will it fit on ? Mine is a 2004 model with just high low . Just want to make sure before go buying the bits.

Cheers
You can, but if your transfer box just has high low, as u say, than the D1 diff lock linkage won’t give u a diff-lock functionality unless you vehicles transfer box incorporates a diff-lock.

Thanks , I was asking what gear box numbers would have the diff lock inside . On the console is a diff lock sticker next to the hi low .

There is a chance you actually have diff lock then, if it is there on a sticker. The linkages on D1s stuck for a past time, and you can fix that by taking it apart from inside the cab, greasing it and putting it back together again. This stuck linkage dopes not prevent the Hi-Lo linkage from working.
You might want to get underneath with a torch and a mirror to see if there is a linkage that can be actioned in any way at all. This was put in on some models.

By "if true" I didn't mean your observations, I meant that they were silly if that was why they actually did it! Can't think of a sensible reason for it.
Maybe some production line worker had a thing against LR and wanted lots of returns under warranty.
Did hear once of a car continuously brought back to the MD with a constant intermittent knock.
After ages they found a welded on panel on the chassis, (long time ago this!) and inside the box section was a bit of welding wire with a nut welded on the end, suspended from the inside top of the box. As the car moved the nut swung and ... you can guess the rest! It also had a note saying something disparaging about the management, cannot remember that detail! But it did cost the MD/company a fortune!

On a similar vein a Range Rover exported to the states a good few years back, was returned to the dealer to investigate a knock from one of the doors when going around corners, On removing the door card they found a
empty beer bottle inside,

Yes, you can upgrade the box with ashcroft kit or buy a working used one with cdl internals + linkage and maybe some wiring added under the console for the warning light

dont fit D1 box, find a D2 one

What about using a D2 box with the linkage from a D1 Sierraferry ? As this is the route I was going to take as I got a spare xfer box with the internals & I picked up the lever & fixings cheap.

Dan.

Yes that is the idea . Think what was trying to get across that if your transfer box has not got a diff lock inside why can you not get a transfer box from a tdi as well as a disco 2 with a diff lock ?

Make some research and read the descriptions of both transfer boxes LT230T/Q which is on D1 and LT230SE which is on the D2 and you'll see... first of all a D1 box is inferior for many reasons and also it doesnt have a hi-low switch which for the D2 is important for the engine management... if you want to bastardise your D2 you can fit a D1 box and make all kind of improvisations though i've already recommended you in a previous post to no do that but i see that you insist.

I'm not being insistent at all . All I was asking is for compatibility of the transfer boxes not the complete gear box . But now I know what the best option is .

Thankyou
