Pm Trewy, coz he had one done - it's not just changing the diff, it's changing the axle casing.
Do yu know a really good welder, if so ask him.
until then remove half shafts, remove diff, wash the casing in petrol and then drive in difflock - or stuff the hole with metal mastic.

they are not to bad to weld in fact fairly straight forward case isnt cast its pressed steel ,the hardest bit is making sure you dont end up with pin holes in weld,it would be easier to swap all your parts if in good nick to fresh case, remembering 200tdl def and before cases have thinner radius arms than 300 on ,300 on uses same case as disco 200 or 300 but some come without roll bar brackets on earlier 200 disco

cut off old one, clean area scrupulously and weld noo one on.

prob is yu are welding a thin metal plate to a heavy cast lump - not an easy job - even for the pros :(.

The replacement pans are a nice tight fit in the casing. Mine was just tack welded in place, then a seam of JB Weld all around the perimeter. It's worked fine (been done 3 years now). After all, it's only to hold the oil in and keep the dirt out - not under any load or pressure.

well as i decided to change the axle i got on with it today. ran in to 1 or 2 little annoying buts but all striped out now. im going to change the seals on the swivel joints (there very rusted and might as well do it on the bench now for easyness) but so far so good. new axle arriving tomorrow but i think the seals wont hbe here till friday so will have to wait till then, here are some pics of my progress
