I know its probably been asked a million times before, so sorry for asking again! lol

Just been looking around at discoveries as im looking to buy one soon. Part of me wants a diesel for the slightly better fuel consumption, where as the petrolhead in me wants the V8.. purely to have the V8! lol

But, in reality, which is the better choice? Thae disco will probably only be used for the work run over winter, but i cant leave things stadnard, so will most likely be equipping it for some off road usage!... I keep hearing that the V8 is better for offroad, but is it true?

How can a v8 be better off road? WTF does that mean? If you like v8's buy one. If you like diesels buy one of those. If you need to ask a load of strangers on the internet what to buy perhaps you should give it a miss.

Wow, a great way to greet a newcomer to the forum. Think I'll give this place a miss if thats the attitude around here.

Bye.

thats nothing -just wait till yu upset someone :D.

V8's tend not to like water. doozils are better without a lot of work for off roading. At the end of the day its yo money, so yo choice.

suggest yu peek into the anything goes section - thats where the action is :D.

welcome to the forum barclay03 !

It has to be said the forum can be a little "boisterous" at times, but a thick skin will see you through.

it depends on what sort of off roading you want to do. If it involves any form of wading, petrols and water don't really mix. Once the engine electrics are wet, you are stuffed. A diesel will not be affected in the same way as a petrol. Sure, if you submerge either engine totally, you'll be in a world of hurt as the alternator will suck in water and so on.

A V8 petrol sure is a sexy sound, but I prefer the gentle chuckle of a diesel meself.

good luck with the choice, and don't take on so.

Hello barklay03.

I was in your situation last year when a few mates introduced me to the wonders of Landrover Discoveries. They had the Diesel, but being a Petrol Head I had to have a V8.

The Car was great, not as nippy as my cars, but they are 2 ton bricks at the end of the day, but went well and did great off road, and of course I had the brownie points from all my mates for the V8 noise.

The only downside was the fuel consumption, Having a family, Mortgage, and all those credit card bills meant I could not afford to use it much, when an £80 tank of fuel might get me 200 miles if I did not press the loud pedal too much.

I now have recently brought a TDi and as for performance, its been a novelty being overtaken by other road users, its usually me doing the overtaking, but as long as you appreciate its going to be slow then its fine, I have not taken it off road yet though.

I hope that helps.

Is this a record? We've got rid of someone in 3 posts.

Seriously, you have to take a flack mate. I took it because I'm youngest but when you get to 20 or so posts everyone gets along. It's like an initiation to see whether you are worthy of everyone's knowledge and experience. Remember that you want something from us, not the other way around. Once you get a few posts no one will even bother anymore. Then you get a few more posts and you get to start teasing the newcomers.

Fair pay if he,s gone in 3 ! ( vote with your feet I say ).

Better than being some whiner, who spends 20 posts trying to convince us we,re all ****as !.

Del.

Another one for the club
