Mine was usually lagged in cowsh!t as well.

Right now we need to find out whether your lift pump is working !
So take the pipe nearest to you off & stick your finger over the metal pipe on the lift pump & start pumping ! If after 2 mins you don't get fuel ( it could be in the wrong position on the cam so you will have to turn the engine over a bit ! ) report back !

Sorry for the late reply, no fuel lines are / have been trapped

Tried pumping for 2mins, nothing happened. There doesn't seem to be any resistants what so ever on the lever

That is because the pump will be on cam. You need to turn the engine to take it off cam then you should get resistance when manual pumping. Sounds like the lift pump has failed.

Will it be enough to turn the engine by the key or do I have to get to the crank pulley? How can the pumps go just like that . One day it works next day it doesn't

The starter turns the engine, not the fuel ...

Just flick the starter. At some point you should get resistance on the manual lever when the internal lever goes off cam.

There is a rubber diaphragm inside it, sometimes they split. They are only cheap, get a good one.

Ok well it's got a little resistance now but not a lot I've been pumping with my finger over the end but nothing. Does this mean it's had it and to get new pump and try again?

Highly likely.

There is a bloke round the corner who has a few parts lying around...
Best get replacing the lift pump!

Use a new gasket, or make one out of cardboard. And make sure you use the same spacer blocks as came off the old pump.

That's what I thought, just currently try to scrape off the half broken gasket that was on there
