Diesel not getting through

Discovery 1
Tried to start it yesterday and once fired up sounded like it was going to die, touch throttle and it did. Today I tried to see where diesel was getting to and where it wasn't. No diesel to the lift pump. Surely it runs from the tank to the pump or does the pump suck it through, meaning pump has had it?
Cheers

Ok, lets start by asking when did it last run Ok ?

Is there any fuel in the filter ?

When was it last serviced ?

Has the sedimentor been removed ?

What year is this Disco ? (just in case) ...

1998 disco

Only thing I've done to the sedimentor is try turn that stupid plastic turny thing and it crumbled in my hand.

What is a service ?

I undo the white screw on bottom of the diesel filter and it was pouring out.

It last ran ok Tuesday, put it on the drive to do a body lift, done passenger side done 3 on drivers side and tried to move it forward a little to get another car on drive way witch is when I found this problem

Was the filter bowl filled to the brim when you took the top off?

If you don't know what your lift pump does, or how to service your vehicle, maybe you should learn before wasting your money on lift kits.

I didn't actually take the top off, I'm sort of learning as I go along. I suppose it's pointless looking now as I undone the not on bottom I thought if it comes out then there must be some in there so done it back up

I was under the impression this was a helpful forum not a criticising one. Like I said before I'm new to this I went for the lift as I have a set of 265 75 16 insa turbo special tracks and they were rubbing. Was this not a good idea

How long have you had the vehicle or have you just noticed the 'rubbing' ?

I have had the discovery a year completely standard I bought some bigger wheels and tyres last week, cut the arches slightly and fitted them. I took it for a drive round the village and arches still catching tyres when hitting lumps and bumps so thought may as well put the body lift on as it will bring it up slightly so I don't have to molester the arches too much

Why did you buy bigger wheels ?

Do you go off-road ?

You've had had the vehicle for a year ? Who maintains it for you?

If you have had it a year, why haven't you serviced it? It needs a full service every year if it is to function reliably.

And an easier approach would be to get standard wheels and tyres.

I bought them to go off road, I maintain my vehicle's..
Like you said service every year. Who's to say I haven't ordered the bits already?
And as for your input on smaller wheels being a better approach, I'm not sure what that has to do with engine not getting any fuel?
Thanks

You don't need them to go off road, a standard landrover is very capable, and I have driven them for 30 years, mostly on heavy off roading, farm and forestry work.

Service every year, first service when you buy it, then every year thereafter.

And this is an advice forum, you asked for our advice, and we gave it.
