damn, changed gearbox, diff and engine oils today then after short run noticed diesel pouring out of front wading hole at front of sump behind bottom pulley wheel?, engine runs fine ? any ideas? cheers

sorry hello all!

its a 300tdi disco in a 110 looks like return pipe leaves the diesel pump back to tank can't see any of the diesel pipes/injector pipes are wet or spraying

pretty sure its diesel , it may be originating from the sump gasket right next to the wading hole hard to tell

Theres an easy test............diesel smells like diesel everything else smells of................well............something else.

Clean everything off til its all shiney and new, run engine, look

If you've got diesel leaking from the sump, you are in deep doo doo.

As has been said clean up around sump and wading plug hole, run it, see what happens.

thanks I'll have a look tomorrow, deep doo doo doesn't sound encouraging how deep?

Well, think about it...the diesel goes in at the top, injectors.

So how did it get to dribble out the bottom.

It has to get past the pistons rings to get near the sump....for that to happen, it can't be good can it....:(

but, as James says, there is that pump seal....

My biggest concern would be that if the diesel is getting into the sump, could the oil not go the other way and possibly find it's way into the cylinders?

Sshhhh, one thing at a time.....

we told him it could be deep, but we never said, over your head....

if diesel is leaking out of timing case wading plug hole it cant be going into sump as they are seperate ,could only be pump seal

Lets be serious James, since when did a Landy owner know where his diesel was going :D

He thinks it coming out the wading hole, he'll check tomorrow and you'll be right and the job will be a good'un, or, I'll be right and the rebuild will start soon.

Have a good evening, I am away to my fartsack as I'm looking after Dad tomorrow, night all.

im not been dismissive at all ,ive much respect for you and many others ,im just pointing out stuff that i know from rebuilding them ,whereas im aware descriptions can be misleading, i dont want you to think im point scoring its just the way post, short and to the point
