the spindle never really turns much,i suppose the bush rotation could become maintenance on a yearly basis,it would possibly last 3 times as long....
then yer would have more time to tune up the pump lol...

Bob while u r on the subject of tweeking the fuel pump that i have been playing with for a couple of days and have got it just right i have noticed that the exsaust gases have got a bit hot is this because i have a standerd intercooler (300tdi) sos for hijacking your deisal leak thread

Ok managed to get chance to have a catch up on the posts. Just about to go through the links etc.
The motor sounds sweet but has sat out on a drive for a good while before I bought the Defender partially stripped, If I can actually get the thing running without ****ing diesel out, then I can check that it gets up to temperature and pulls ok. I have been a quick drive but then found the original leak.
My intercooler is pretty tatty TBH a lot of the fins are bent over, so I have tweeked them back, but then it was lying in the back when I towed it home. The motor has done about 180,000 so once it is running properly I can tune away, what is the intercooler secret:confused2:

Clean it out using petrol or white spirit - make sure its dry before refitting
If its in a bad way get it recored at a rad place

well,
you could fit a thermostat..
test it and keep the gas below 650degrees,most turbos run up to about 700 but just back it down a bit if its too hot...
you could fit a pimp turbo to take the heat but......
so best under 650 degrees would be suitable as mines ok.

Found a pump spindle repair kit on eBay, couldn't find anything specific elsewhere on the net, have emailed seller to check its the correct kit but looks right for the Bosch pump as per the kinky.

Ok. Pump spindle repair kit fitted today. Ordered from eBay from a helpful chap who gave me the link to his DIY website instructions. Not too bad a job really.
And it appears to have stopped the leaks, but there is a load of diesel sitting on top of the axle which needs cleaning up to be sure.
Fingers crossed I can get on with some fun stuff now.
