Hello,

I've just poured a bottle (as directed) of 'diesel additive' into a full tank of fuel which claims to reduce engine noise, improve cold starts and keep my injectors clean. It also contains Kerosene which will certainly do no harm, but is this stuff actualy effective i.e. will I notice a difference, or is it just a load of bollocks?

Thanks in advance for any feedback

I'm going to try a 70% DERV, 30% VEG blend over summer, and if it works well, continue doing so and balance out the ratio about 50/50.

I'll see how this kerosene stuff works for now - fingers crossed

Some people swear by these fuel additives, injector cleaners, and the like, and they do seem to have good effects.

Don't worry about kerosene - it is a fine fuel for diesels AS LONG AS YOU ADD OIL to it so the fuel injection pump is lubricated.

This is why all bulk fuel sales invoices and delivery notes for Gas Oil (red diesel aka 35 second Heating Oil) and Kerosene (aka 28 second Heating Oil) have red warning on them

GAS OIL AND KEROSENE NOT TO BE USED AS ROAD FUEL.

Now, would they print that if they weren't perfectly fit to use?

Avoid kerosene in TD5s due to the high termperatures of the return fuel.

I think a nice blend of veg and pump fuel is the way to go.

mmm strange. It's a perfectly legal local supermarket type "engine cleaner" which contains a small ammount of kerosene (higher cetane level for cold starts it states ;))so I assume it can be used legally on the roads in this dose. If it's not, it doesn't state it anywhere on the bottle, and the government haven't told me I can't use fuel additives or engine cleaners on public roads have they?

Ah yes, but what the robbing bastards in the government have not told you on the bottle is that the ****es have charged road fuel duty and vat on the additive, so either way those lumps of filth are laughing as they rob you again.

When they apply tax to road fuel they add the fuel tax to the price of the juice, and THEN add 17.5% VAT, so the psychopathic pervert poofter thieves are making us pay TAX ON TAX!

Only in GB Land, the land of the free .... HA HA HA !

To be honest the tiny quantity of additive cannot contain enough kero to make much of an increase, increasing the cetane rating is only going to make it ignite faster, its energy you want this is found in heavy oils.

Try a few litres of cheap engine oil on top of a full tank of fuel.

I've heard that running on a veg/derv mix as well as saving a few pennies, can make your engine smoother. I have also read that the fuel pumps struggles with veg oil, and long term can coke up your engine.

Would you 30% mix be enough bugger up the fuel pump, and enough to cause a substanial build up of coke ( not the drink:D) on the engine?
