Do forget I've got a V6 Freelander so performance wise it's the Freelander all the way!! Sound wise the V6 is the quietest Freelander there is. As for reliability our Tiguan has been a dog. The build quality is marginal tbh, so bad it makes all 3 of my Freelanders and my MGs seem very reliable!! Something I do love with the Tiguan is the Bose stereo which is simply stunning!!

Hey Nodge, My end on this was my last comment in reply to SV. Differing opinions:):)

Quite right - differing opinions - so we are all of us right - in our own ways.

If I had a different use for my FL I would be in total agreement with ................... someone else.

Life would be very boring if we all made the same choices.

Vive la difference! ;)

I just bought a 2002 TD4, why didn't I get a Disco? Simples, couldn't afford one. The humble freelander stood to me well at the weekend when we got the first snows over here and I needed to get up above the snowline. I had a Mondeo before the Freelander, it was good in snow but I know there is no way it would have got me to my destination, so in my case I've had an upgrade in car and it's doing the job. I don't expect it to go anywhere but it's certainly a bonus that it got me where I needed to be.

I'm an amateur photographer and there's as saying amongst photographers "the best tripod is the one you have with you." so to my mind it's similar, the best 4x4 is the one I have with me, it has limits but you do what you can with what you have (or can afford) :)

Well that started somthing!
I quite like the look of the VW but I would have to sell my soul , the bike , and the freeloader to afford one
And would you stick a set of Camac Terra 's on for the snow
Hey-Ho

Our other car is a Tiguan 4 motion and it is let down by the tyres in the snow, however it sees snow 3 times per year and is otherwise a very sure footed mile muncher. So, wifey says my Freeby is useful for three days per year and her VW is useful for the other 362. Anyhow it's like saying an FL1 is better than a Disco or Defender or Tiguan - it just aint, but it has its charms and abilities :D
what do you do on a leap year? LOL

Hi all newbie here.
Bought a 52 plate 1.8 gs a few weeks ago, thought this drives nice untill the first snow on friday.
turns out my 4x4 is a fwd:(.
But the props front and back including the vcu are all present??
Its going to the shop for sorting tomorrow hopefully its the vcu.
i also fitted a full set of uhp grabbers on it,and even in fwd only i have not got stuck once.i love this car:)

And I don't want any new product from LR - so it'll be TaTa from me when this one is not reliable enough to go to the Balkans regularly.

I really haven't seen or tried anything that can equal the FL1 for my particular (perhaps quirky and unusual) needs.

Possibly something from Bavaria - but not an X anything.

Hey SV, You have probably already seen this, but just clicked on the Dacia ad on LZ - interesting 4x4 set up. Apparently you can select auto balance, 50/50 split front to back or all front. No idea if it is any good but liking these choices.
