:amen:

I know we all like to big up the freelander so here is my pennies worth
Yesterday I watched a guy in a Brand New VW Tiguan 4 motion try to get off the road across a dropped kerb and on to his drive all four wheels driving /spinning, three attempts backwards then turned round and tried forwards.
The nice wide alloys and summer tyres arn't good just polished the snow to ice underneath.

Our other car is a Tiguan 4 motion and it is let down by the tyres in the snow, however it sees snow 3 times per year and is otherwise a very sure footed mile muncher. So, wifey says my Freeby is useful for three days per year and her VW is useful for the other 362. Anyhow it's like saying an FL1 is better than a Disco or Defender or Tiguan - it just aint, but it has its charms and abilities :D

Agreed - It all depends on what you buy / want a vehicle to do.

A Smart is better than a Rolls-Royce ! - if you want to park in a busy city street - or even at Tescos.

My Sprinter can turn around in the street like a London Taxi - my Freelander can't.

Horses for courses. ;)

My wife's VW Tiguan 4 Motion has Pirelli Scorpions and it's still nowhere near as good as my Freelander in snow even though it should be as good as it has the optional E diff lock!!
It's better on fuel though :)

Yeah but Nodge it will cruise all day at 90mph in silence, as you know. We live in the UK not the Alps!!! Lets stop trying to talk up the old Fleeby - it is what it is!
I'm proper bored with mine, but if you guys think its the best car on the planet, well that's fine but the comparisons with modern motors don't stack up. Next we will be saying that we rather have an FL1 than FL2 or a D3 - come on!:)

I would as I would have trouble fixing those and believe me in a few years there will be shed loads lying around dirt cheap in need of fixing. Too much electrikery though, not for us DIY types.

I know I can keep my FL1 going for years to come, can't say the same for newer tra-tas.

You know, I agree with this sentiment as well Will. Anyhow I'm out of this discussion - each to there own opinion:)

Well - I don't live in the Alps, but I do go there at least 3 times a year in all weathers.

To get there I do cruise at 85 - 90 on the autobahnen.

And I don't want any new product from LR - so it'll be TaTa from me when this one is not reliable enough to go to the Balkans regularly.

I really haven't seen or tried anything that can equal the FL1 for my particular (perhaps quirky and unusual) needs.

Possibly something from Bavaria - but not an X anything.

SV.

Your a loyal soldier SV:) My other half is not swapping her Tiguan for an FL1 anytime ever and I don't blame her! Me, I'm almost decided on a TD5. Spect I'll get bored with that some day;)

Don't forget I've got a V6 Freelander so performance wise it's the Freelander all the way!! Sound wise the V6 is the quietest Freelander there is. And is on par with the VW. Comfort it's the Tiguan ;) As for reliability our Tiguan has been a dog. The build quality is marginal tbh, so bad it makes all 3 of my Freelanders and my MGs seem very reliable!! Something I do love with the Tiguan is the Bose stereo which is simply stunning!!
