Morning all, wondering if anyone has used a AUtobos V 30 diagnostic tool on a RR and was it a success? Been looking a getting a diag tool but running 2 x L322 1 x P38 and a D3 difficult to know which to go for, saw one of these used on a Cayenne the other day and the guy said would do a RR no problem so plugged it into a D3 and seemed to access all areas.

Your P38 is definitely going to be a problem as these are not OBD compliant. They were developed before the protocols were set. You'll possibly be able to read the engine functions but none of the other ECUs.

Hmm got a BBS FCR for that one (P38)and it is in the UK so plenty of LR support with indies, here am at the mercy of of one dealer and not cheap, was also thinking be able to help out a few mates with different makes as the dealers here are a pain and a rip off, so would it be any use on later LR's or stick with BBS and tough luck to any mates?

Would do but they don't all run RR, so is autobos a viable option or waste of time and money?

I would suggest you contact; Car Diagnostic Scan Tools | GEG Diagnostics | Handheld Testing Equipment | Diagnostic Equipment sales UK - GEG Diagnostics GEG will supply both Testbook T4 and SDD - the factory tools.
This would obviously not be the cheapest solution, but it would give factory coverage on all your cars - plus all the modern Jaguar stuff too with SDD.If you are serious about diagnostics I would think it wouldnt be too hard to make them pay for themselves.
My experience of all the aftermarket tools is that their coverage is often incomplete or have bugs that never get fixed. They seem to suffer from being reverse engineered, wheras T4 and SDD are developed for LR.Despite all the negative talk about both systems, they actually work and will get cars working to their factory spec.

Hiya Jon,

That's a big money question. If it was just Land Rover, then faultmate, in my opinion cannot be beaten.
I specialize in Jags as well as LR & my IDS manages magnificently right up to 2012, & I have full ford & mazda coverage.

Anyway you look at it, it all costs big bucks.

Hello Rick, long time no speak ! I think it is all expensive too - but not as bad as it was,I paid £10,700 with the Vat for Testbook back in 2003,just paid £2000 plus Vat for SDD....(And it could have been less with a cheaper laptop)
Do the Faultmates cover Evoque and the latest D4's etc ?
I've never bothered too much with BBS stuff cos to many trade contacts have complained about the backup.
