As im new to this and want to get all the moded bits like steering guard diff guards tank guard lift kit etc i think it would help me if people could tell me the best bits to buy for my landy from your own experience of crap or good parts i know i want to get a safari snorkel kit but not sure on best parts for other bits. My dad works fror landrover so i can get discount on most parts earlier he insisted had the vin number to order seat covers! WTF lol

Guessing he works at the parts counter? Every single person I've met at parts counters won't do anything without a VIN number and number plate cos they don't have the common sense to work it out any other way!

First off what do you wanna do in your disco? Trials? Pay and play days? Green laning? What you want to do will vary what mods you might wanna make, although bear in mind your disco will be pretty good as standard.

To start off with I would get rid of your side steps, mud flaps and low slung towball and get some chunky off road tyres. BF Goodrich Mud Terrains are a popular choice, however there's a few companies offering similar tread patterns a bit cheaper. Once you've got some decent rubber on there you can start playing in the mud and that will tell you what other mods you need, no point shelling out loads for a steering guard and snorkel if it turns out you never go anywhere near rocks or water!

I will be using it to get to work everyday on A12 and M25 so dont want to get a complete mud tyre, as with what you said about the parts department i asked my dad to order me some seat covers and he still asked me for the vin number WTF  lol

With the off road driving we will be doing green laning and off road course at Rochford (Essex) and some other off roading courses been looking on ebay for second hand parts also have a friend at work whos brother breaks landrovers to.

I need to do the suspension as one of the rear is in need of replacing so am looking at buying a cheap 2" lift kit also want to get the 300 lights and indicators for the front and also looking at changing the dashboard for the 300 to if its cheap enough

is that just because you think it will look better ?

Yeah there's no real benefit in fitting 300tdi bits on, it just tidies up the front end a lot and makes it look a bit cleaner and newer. You may as well buy a rust MOT failure 300tdi (there's plenty about for a few hundred quid) and use it as a donor vehicle if yours is solid?

Wouldn't have thought you'd need a lift kit just yet, you'll gain a bit of ground clearance just buy getting some better wheels and tyres and getting rid of things like steps and stuff. However if you wanna go that route companies like Pro Comp do shocks and springs that will give you a 2 inch lift, bear in mind you might need to extend things like brake hoses and any ABS wiring you might have to take into account the lift, and you will also be putting strain on your other suspension and transmission components too.

yeah and the parts are cheap enough to buy new just want to tidy it up a little the rear shock needs to be done thats why i thought i may as well the the lift at the same time

I must be the only one who prefers the 200 front?

Yep, 300 looks much better with the bigger headlights and central grill. Don't like the tiny little lenses with black plastic round them on the 200 front, it dated very quickly.

Will i need to change the grill to fit the lights or can i do it at a later date?

Not done it myself to be honest but I would assume you'll need to, on the 200 disco the grill surrounds the headlight and indicator as one piece, whereas on the 300 the headlight and indicator are separate and the grill is just in the middle. Think there might be a few other brackets and bits of plastic you'll need as well, it's not just a straight swap.

ok ill look in to it thanks theres so much stuff to get lol its hard to know where to start i dont mind spending alot of money on decent bits as i do with my bike got some pazzo levers for £130 and thats a small item

You spent £130 on levers? on a what, 18 year old bike? That's madness if I'm honest, I'm quite happy with the standard Kawasaki levers on my ZXR and the only reason I'd take em off is to give them to a mate to get them anodized black!

But if that's how loose your purse is then I wouldn't be surprised if you end up with a 100" Bowler when you're done with this disco ;)

Not so... 200 has headlight surrounds seperate to the grill... but afaik there is some work to do to fit the 300 headlight (not wings, just the box behind lights) but the 200 lights are cheaper to replace... so I'll keep mine! :)

Changing the 200tdi dash to a 300tdi is a major undertaking and if you're going to do that and the facelift. then you'd be better off selling the 200tdi and buying a 300.

Keep an eye out for me, I work in Chelmsford and am normally in this:
