Hi all, I haven’t posted in a while, but have encountered something strange and can’t seem to find anything that relates to this.

The other day when trying to reverse, I put the clutch in when reversing and slowed down as if i was pulling the clutch out in first. It was quite strange but it went away and I thought nothing of it.

Recently it happened when moving in first and dipping the clutch, and then today when trying to roll with the clutch in I couldn’t roll and it made a horrible loud creaking noise.

It’s really strange as I’m sure it doesn’t happen when in neutral, just when the clutch is actually dipped.

Any ideas? The only thing I can think it relates to is the use of low range box recently due to heavy snow. It’s a 300tdi engine in a 1990 LR 90 mounted to LT77. Any comments really appreciated!

Hi All,
After searching high and low on the internet this was the only related post I could find on the same issue I am having.
1991 Defender 110 with the 300TDi and R380, With the clutch down, it wont roll in 1st or reverse, just a clunk and stops.
It will roll just fine with the clutch pedal down in 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and in neutral. Other than that it drives well through all the gears, clutch works fine.
I emailed Ashcroft last week and they didn't know what it could be. Its a mystery which I'm hoping someone else has come across or can help?
many thanks in advance,
Cheers
Andy

Thanks for the reply. If it is a Selector issue, that would mean gearbox out correct?
Is there any tips on how to confirm a selector issue before taking the plunge and removing the gearbox?
