Very easy to mix up the wires alright! Happened me too but luckily I thought to check if it worked before putting the dash trim back together.

Does the Bearmach switch fall apart as you try fit it like the britpart one does lol.

I got one when my intermittent stopped working. complete pain in the ass as had to glue in the clip after it fell apart when fitting it.
Got it fitted and a few days later the motor gave up anyway

Was easy to fit compared to the britpart one I got sent first time round,

I now categorically refuse to accept britpart at this point lol,

Some people have some real horror stories about them !

theres been one of those for ages, the VW99 relay.
bout a tenner off ebay IIRC, keep meaning to get me one :)

You are correct.

The time delay is set by turning the wipers on intermittent to do one sweep and then flicking em off again. The gap between the end of that sweep and the next time you turn em on is the delay gap for each swipe. It's setable for summit like 2 to 45 secs.

After a trawl around, and many evening spent head scratching and pulling the dash out (and my hair) I found this thread. Thought I would tag on here to save starting a new one. If that's wrong just let me know and I'll start a new one.

Problem is my intermittent and parking of my windscreen wipers.

I'll start from the beginning....

I bought my defender hard top 200tdi last year, two days after it was unfortunately stolen, luckily I got it back. The dash was however all torn apart around the steering column (hot wire jobby). Most of the wires from the stalk were disconnected. I thought I had them all in the correct place, perhaps maybe not?

Up until a month ago the wipers were functioning without intermittent and proper parking (I had to stop them manually with the stalk) in all honesty I don't think I actually used the wipers before the Landy was stolen, so I was used to this/never knew any different.

The fuse for the wipers kept on popping and then they totally gave up.

I have replaced the motor (which I now understand includes the park sensor?) and fitted new spigots, new wipers, and blades.

The wipers were then working again but still without intermittent or proper parking. So thoughts then turned to the delay relay. I replaced this one (the red one to the left of all the fuses in front of the gear stick).

This however made it worse, as the new relay made the wipers stay on constantly! I couldn't switch them off.

I thought this was maybe the wrong relay and after a bit of digging on here there is apparently one behind the instrument cluster, again red. I took the dials out and went to replace this one with the new one I tried in the other location. The removed relay is however a 7 pin, and the new relay a 6. So I think this is the wrong place but fitted it anyway as the patterns were the same. There was no change. Still wipers do not park, or have intermittent operation.

Any ideas?

I've replaced the original relays, so I do have functioning wipers but no intermittent or auto park.

Is the wiring on the stalk to blame? Or the relay behind the dash? Or fuse box?

Confused/frustrated ..... Any help would be brilliant!

Wow, I just realised what an essay I have just written, sorry!

Cheers mate, the park sensor.... Is this the little connector like thing that is on the side of the wiper motor housing?

I think I have a picture of the right wire set up,

I made the mistake of not making a not f what wire went where, all on is a symptom of that !

Cheers for the help and the pictures.

I've had a play around today. The wiring to the motor is as it should be. Also the relay is brand new and working as it should. The wiring to the wiper stalk is also as it should be.

Still no intermittent wipers though :S

As far as I'm aware the park sensor on the motor housing is also brand new because it came with the new motor.

I think it's maybe time I got used to it unless anyone has any brighter ideas.

Make sure the grey connector is in properly,

Other than than I'd try a new park switch, make sure its not britpart, I had a replacement that was britpart, didnt even work

Hello, this is my first post, because I need some help, sorry! I have a 2013 Defender and the window wipers stopped working today! I tried to book it in to my local Land Rover dealer and they can't fit me in until September! I've checked the fuse and it seems okay. Does anyone know if there's a relay that may need changing? Thanks in advance for any help. Nigel

Its a simple switch (called a park switch) that is housed alongside the motor; cost to replace is approx £12. Don't replace the whole motor as if your wipers are still moving its still working. Did mine about two months ago, quick 5minute job, part number is 520160 (for a 1992 defender 90).

Hope that helps,

Chris

I shall be ordering this.
If it works, I shall name my next new spanner after you.

OK, this comes a bit late in the day, but have you made sure that there is a circlip on the end of the drive spindle where it comes through the motor body?
If it's not there, the park and delay switches don't work when the drive wheel lifts itself away from ther base!
Mine has had a modified washer holding it in place for the past 4 years, and I will get round to fitting a new circlip ... one day (maybe!!)
