I having problems with my wipers, intermittent is not intermittent and when you turn the wipers off they stop wherever they are, I can deal with this until the rain becomes intermittent!. Could this be the wiper delay unit?, and where is it located?

hi i think you will find that you dont have a relay, the park and intermitant is done buy the internals of the motor so looks like your motor has gone kaphut sorry,on a bonus side they always keep going at normal and fast speed just parking them is a pain.

ha ha, it's just like in the days of the Series landies, after a while you'd be able to time it just right to park the wipers.

Hi, I have had the same problem with my 110 except i could not switch them off!! this lasted for over 6 months.... until i pulled the relay switch out now i have the same problem as you... which i can live with..for another 6 months...cheers.. and lets hope for dry summer!.

Apparently there is a 'park' switch on the wiper motor, I'm going down that route. Dry summer?, what is this?

Its a simple switch (called a park switch) that is housed alongside the motor; cost to replace is approx £12. Don't replace the whole motor as if your wipers are still moving its still working. Did mine about two months ago, quick 5minute job, part number is 520160 (for a 1992 defender 90).

Hope that helps,

Chris

i also had to park the wipers not realy a prob, and no intermittent but they have given up completely now fuses are fine so i think motor might have had it

I replaced the park unit on my 90's wiper motor (£12) and hey presto the intermittant wipe started working again. result.

took me an hour and a half cos I bothered to clean up all the bits of dash you don't normally get to, and had a tea break halfway.

i find that last comment in bad taste.poor people.just when they thought they was over the worst of it gordon brown turns up

Hi, just installing a new park switch and having no joy. Saying that, the wipers completely stopped about 5 minutes before I decided to do this, despite the switch being with me for the last 6 months!
2 things.
Where is the fuse for the wiper motor located?
And the wiring of the park switch. Terminal 1(top) blue, terminal 3 yellow, terminal 5 red?

Thanks
Dave

fuse is in the fuse board in front of the gear levers. It's the 2nd or 3rd in from the right if I remember right. at least that's where it is on mine anyway ('03 TD5)

I see britpart (I know I know) is doing a programmable relay now that allows you to set he frequency of the intermittent sweep. might try it as my dads Disco 2 having a range of settings while my Defender only has one stupid setting and sweeps for ages when only wanting a quick wash-wipe annoys me :p

+1, I had the same problem with mine. it's about a twenty minute job.

Very easy to mix up the wires alright! Happened me too but luckily I thought to check if it worked before putting the dash trim back together.

Make a note of which wires go where,

Made that mistake,

Also try and get Bearmach not britpart park switch,

Does the Bearmach switch fall apart as you try fit it like the britpart one does lol.

I got one when my intermittent stopped working. complete pain in the ass as had to glue in the clip after it fell apart when fitting it.
Got it fitted and a few days later the motor gave up anyway
