Hi All
I am attempting a complete overhaul of a 4:1 ratio transfer box for my Defender.
I have got stuck finding new Sun gears for the differential , I bought a overhaul set from Ashcroft transmissions but upon questioning Dave about why they are different , he tells me the supplier has changed the design without telling him ?
They will no longer work for landrovers ? And he hasn't any others ?
So I'm hoping to get a refund from Ashcroft but now I still need to source 2 new Sun gears to finish the job.
I'm quite dissapointed that Ashcroft are not very helpful .

Ashcroft buy in.
Go to evolution (EAC), they actually make the stuff, they have been always reliable.
Suppose you mean a 1:1.41 lt230...

Hi
I phoned them
Stuart has retired
Chap in end of phone said he couldn't help unless I had part number ? Which seems vague for a landrover specialist ?
Now to try and find landrover part numbers for a 16/10 diff gear set ???

Ok
Got back to Mr Nothelpfull with a part number RTC4490
He tells me then part number should be STC4490 ????,...............
But we don't have any in stock !!
FFS I'm shaffted
There's no diff gear sets in the UK

That I don’t know but if you look at first link and click the item 3 with your number you it’s says superseded with the other 1

Paddock spares none
John craddock have none
Also they say they can't get any 16/10 gears only the superseded part number STC2940 which are the wrong ratio for my 1.141 transfer box.
Looks like keeping Landrovers up together is getting near impossible if parts are getting this rare?

My only option may be to scrap the Landrover centre diff and fork out the £400 for a ATB complete Diff.
I'm gutted that basic parts are so rare

This is the diff set and will not affect the gearing of the box.
As long as you replace as the set it all matches up.

Wait for somebody with long trousers to confirm:) but I am sure it should be ok.

May also need to check cross pin size to if you get that kit. It maybe different.

Good luck

To be honest if your pockets are deep enough I would. (I am planning that for our little slug soon)
Just got to magic up enough tokens:D

Cheers Marjon
You have been very helpfull.
Chap at cradocks said the 14/9 gear set would not be suitable for my 1.141 transfer box . It would mess up the ratio.
I also bought a super tough cross bearing carrier for a new gear set so that's also redundant now .
I am in shock all the specialists are selling all these special diff parts yet haven't sorted the basics . None of it is any use to anyone .
It's same as putting the same old pistons in a fresh rebore.

Don’t rush yet.
Why not put up a wanted add on here?
Loads of guys have bits laying around. And more knowledge about this sort of thing they just haven’t picked up on the thread yet.

Hang on @Brown changed his for anATB wonder if he still got a box of bits?

Still don’t believe TB diff gear set changes box ratios, so I would take that guys advice with a pinch of salt;)
