Defender td5 manual gearbox won't select any gears

Hi everyone,
I have just replaced the reversing switch on my 02 double cab,put it all back together jumped in started it up.wont go into any gear and the brake warning light on dash won't go out now.Handbrake working fine,as was gearbox and gear selection before starting job no grinding gears or whining from box.anyone know what I've missed or have any suggestions as what could be the cause??

At a guess you have screwed the switch too far in! Unscrew it a few turns at a time until it works as it should

It can only be linked to the work you have just done

Jimwyllie,thanks for the reply.i didn't realize you could screw it in too far,but I have screwed it in right up to the nut,that was how the old one was fitted.will do as you suggest tomorrow and get back to you.didnt know it would stop me selecting gears though??

Hope I haven't misled you, I was thinking of the lt77 switch, your 02 td5 will have an r380 gearbox so does not have the same. However as above it will be connected to something you have done while changing switch.
