Morning All,

Another day another problem !!
Having had various power loss problems my fuel pump has been changed for the second time in 5 months along with the relevant relay. All was going well for 50 miles and now the power loss problem is back !!
Ive found that the fuel pump relay is getting very hot very quickly - should this be happening ??
The Defender is really down on power and wondering if this relay could be at fault, what would cause it to get so hot ??
Any ideas greatly taken on board !!

Sounds like excessive current draw, that would suggest worn pump bearings either due to mileage or if it has run out of fuel and over sped the the pump

Relay contacts do burn and cause high resistance and therefore heat.
Than that worth making sure no partially blocked lines/filters and checking low fuel pressure side of things is within spec.

Fuel regulators do leak and cause problems from time to time, but be worth checking fuel pressure

I think I found the fault with regards to power loss having decided to flush the coolant and replace with new. As Bearmach warehouse is over the road from me I decided to change to thermostat and the temp sensor at the same time as I had been getting random spikes on the temp gauge on the dashboard. The temp sensor was covered in gasket sealer (I guess from when head was rebuilt) and since I changed it i've had no problems with power loss of temperature spikes - fingers crossed problem is solved.
