I've got the gear lock from x eng and whilst its a great visual deterrent and a well built bit of kit I can't help but feel it wouldn't stop much. It locks the box in 5th gear hi ratio, surely low ratio would have been better. Plus there is still a degree of movement in the gearstick with it fitted. I'll be getting one of their pedal locks as soon as I can afford it, those do look good and efficient
I agree - the lower the gearing the more compression strokes per wheel revolution thus the harder to move.
That said any they can just chop off the top of the gear stick..!

Looks like you would need to cut the gear stick below the lock and push the lock aside. I don't know how easy it would be to drive the truck with a few inches of lever. I doubt if it would slow them down very much, think a pedal box would be better.

I've did it when my gearstick snapped off right at the bottom. It was like shaking hands with a cat but certainly still driveable; leading me to think that they could just quickly hacksaw off the gear lever thus rendering the gear lock useless
Yeah. Sadly this is true. It's funny, as has been said, nothing will stop the prepared, tooled up scrotebag. The lock does come with a sheering nut to replace the fixing one on the gear stick to stop someone just lifting the rubber and unbolting it, but there's nothing stopping them just cutting if off, you have to admit.
I guess, with an alarm (however long that lasted before being disabled), a gear lever to hacksaw, and having to deal with a steering wheel lock too, I have to accept this is the best I can do! I'm parked on a busy city street, you'd have to HOPE they would give up with all that lot ahead of them.
I might see if I can get my hands on a old defender gear lever and see how hard it is to hacksaw through, with a number of different tools... I'll report my findings back 
Until then, I've just bought the x-eng knob lever (oo er) I'll also come back with some feedback on that once I have that and have installed it.

locking the clutch brake with a quality pedal lock system is essential . Do you not park it in gear, with the tyres turned towards the curb and then hand brake set? So with hand brake released still could not be towed.
Any system can be defeated, you are just trying to stop them, or make them look for a easier target. Time is against them as the longer they mess about increase there chance of being found out
I do park it in gear, full curbside lock. Even with a clutch-lock though, could they not just pull it out of gear, drop the handbrake and tow? (allbeit a landy determined to steer). I honestly don't know! Too newb :baby:
I kind of figure Land Rover security assumes the thief can get IN to the vehicle no problem.. it's stopping them getting AWAY with the vehicle that counts
I deffo take on board your comments tho Thor, cheers. I may yet invest in a brake-clutch lock so if I have to leave the Landy anywhere for an extended period I can absolutely lock it down.

When i left the army i used my resettlement money to train as a general and automotive locksmith; boy what an eye opener.
It is frankly frightening how easy it is too get into houses and vehicles. Even immobilisers are not too much of a hindrance.
The best you can hope for is as already has been said; slow them down. Visible deterrence is the best way to stop opportunist twerps.
Also the majority of vehicle thefts happen with a house break in. It is so much easier to get into your house and go for the keys than trying the vehicle. Most people don't bother using their lever locks on the front door and just use the 'latch' lock (rim and cylinder). You can open a latch lock in under 10 seconds, silently with no special picks or tools........
Generally once they spot the vehicle they want they will watch your house to get an idea of routines then pick their moment.

they would have a hard job getting mine out blocked in by 3 6foot brick walls a car reversed within a inch and a bus in front of that! if they can still get that out they are welcome to it but i think i would see them parked down the road as it would probably fall to bits before they got any real distance and plus there is a much nicer one down the road
