Defender screen demister mounting - 200/300tdi difference.

Putting things back together here -

The 200tdi had the narrow screen demisters. The 300s were wider -



What i didnt realise is that the mounting is different. The 300s mount using the screws that you see at the edges in the photo above, whilst the 200s have a single screw that goes through the sub dash into the center bump that you see in the photo above also (ie its still there, just unused, i think)

Why do i care?

Im fitting 300vents behind, what i now realise, is a 200sub dash. Sure its only 4 holes to measure out and drill, but was the single center mounting that bad? Whacking one self tapper through (200tdi style) seems like it will be more than enough - so why did they change it?

Anyone care?

My 200 has the two-screw type, so if they changed it was before Jan 1992.

Can't see it making any difference, it's not like it's going to get knocked about. Pre Defender Landies seem to have the one screw and I've never heard of one failing.

You will need the 300 dash top panel as the vents are wider.

I have that. By chance, i just picked up one of the two sub-panels that i had - they both looked the same, but the one ive now painted up turned out to be the 200 one, without the additional holes.

As i say, its hardly any bother to drill them. It may simply be that a self tapping in plastic does not last that many uses, so they went for the metal insert things instead.
