defender roof lining

Any ideas welcome
I brought a new front & rear roof liners for my 90 with the sunroof allready cut out & decided to fit yesterday thats when i found out my sunroof was aftermarket not original.
The liner looks great exept for the 1 inch gap between the glass & the liner
any body had this problem & how did you solve it

same shade gaffer tape or send it to me and i will take the problem of your hands

Camping mat foam fixed with high temp spray adhesive, or roof or speaker lining in a similar shade - ebay

I as i am breaking my disco i have 2 sunroofs. Good plan to put in the front of my 90?

Pat, have you fitted the black edging strip that bridges the gap between the glass and liner?

Yes done that it seems my sunroof is not landrover Its smaller, shame because the liner fits and looks great.
I will think of something or see something that will finish off.

Looking to replace my headliner, where did you get your replacement from ?

I have seen a few threads/searches reference roof linings

i assume you have brought another pattern of the roof lining and fitted it but did you think about doing a DIY roof lining. As i have seen and read bits about roof linings being done DIY but i cant find anywhere for what is best to use on it and in what order and so on.

thought someone could shed some light on it here then starting a new thread.


As for you gap problem i would say what the other guys said - maybe some matching colour felt would do the job?

For DIY

1) Use high temp spray adhesive (normal stuff lets go when it gets hot!)

2) First fix either camping mat or the metal backed stuff from DIY stores used behind radiators to the roof

3) Cover using either speaker grill mesh (it stretches so stays taught) or roof lining material off ebay - see post 3

When doing my load bay, I just used camping mat, butted the edges tight together and left that as the finished surface

Persoanlly Dan I'd avoid carpet - soaks up and retains water.

Rubber matting would do you better - thick stuff used for stable matting is good or source off ebay

got the roof liners form equicar wolverhampton brand new direct from the suppliers to landrover. top quality kit.
if you do buy i went in the wifes disco it only just fitted with a bit of pushing & shoveing

Roof liner prob sorted went to b&q & brought 3 tubes of pipe wrap its those tube foams slit down one side.
And i put the cut side onto the exposed roof liner all the way around which left the round part butted up against the original sunroof seal and i got to say it looks the dogs danglysThanks for your ideas.

Not just my area then! I need to fix my headlights but won't stop raining!

well finally fitted the rear part now all fitted went through the back door with a bit of a bend but didnt crease.
What a difference new roof liners make, thanks for all your suggestions
