no pics but years ago i made one that was full width above the windscreen and extended in the centre, it enabled a speaker above passenger and driver, a shallow 'cubby' above driver and passenger and the centre housed a cb at 90 degrees facing the driver and two angled downlights plus a few switches.
Being full width the internal gutters supported most of the weight

Cheers Steve

No updates on work done on the console as I havent done anything to it

but.. I bought this beauty off ebay yesterday and picked it up today! Been playing with it already and its brilliant!!

Cuts, bends and rolls sheet metal, the rollers are under the cover at the top... tried cutting 1,7mm with no problem :D

wish I had this when i started the console!

first one I'm making for me...

then I might start doing more now and again to pay for the machine, quite fancy playing around with different designs and stuff, have a few ideas in mind. Could also do custom jobs to people requirements, like a draw on the side, slightly different shape, etc..

but also bought it with other things in mind, like at some point repairing my bulkead, will be handy to bend panels for repairs around the vents and corners, will also be handy to build the channels for door bottom repairs.

also a mate is rebuilding a Buick so it will be handy for him to use

above all, I bought it because im fed up with cutting metal using a disc cutter/saw and file and bending on a vice and using a hammer...
I had the cash available, so I bought it. its one of those things that if I sell in 3 years time I'll get my money back as they dont go down in value if taken care of, and this one is brand new condition, rollers havent even been used.

how much? looks a nice piece of kit

550... not sure if for someone in the trade its a good price or not, but for me it was. :D

had a look online and these brand new are £700+VAT, and this one is virtually brand new..
and when looking on eBay, could only find machines that would do one single application, shear, bend or roll, not all the 3 like this one, and even single function machines, quite in a state were going for 250/300, sometimes more.

so i think i got a good price for it

but as I said, this is from what info I gathered, would be good to hear from someone with experience if I paid too much or if it was fair

Hoooo and forgot to say, it weighs a fokin tonne! when me and my mate lifted my air compressor (150L Clarke industrial) into the garage, it was hard....but this was a completly different game! was easy for the seller as he just fork lifted it into our trailer

Feel very free to make experiment no 2 for my landy :D:D And if you are looking for some decent images of the finished job you are more than welcome to call :D

here ya go.... todays update

Cut the plate where switches will be put on and cut the tabs where a nut will be welded so the plate can screw into, it then can be taken off to do wiring etc and screwed back in place.
cutting this plate was a 5min job with the new machine! :D

Then did a test fitting, but not in its actual place as I havent removed the center strut off the roof yet.

Still need to cut the big plate to weld on top to close it off and give it more structural strength

Still looking very good

What's it weighing in at?

To be honest, I dont know, its light though, can quite easily pick it up with one finger and move it around with one hand to put on the roof, will have to weigh it

What you guna do when its finished?

Painted?
Carpeted?

Just going to paint it, no carpet.
Will paint it black and possibly going for some kind of texture to it, not sure what is available out there, need to investigate.

I'll wait for Blue Peter's version, using Pringle tubes and egg cartons as this is very much out of my league in technical ability!

I'm genuinely impressed and thoroughly jealous!

i like the placing of it at the moment could they be fixed at all in the place that your showing on your photo's. so it acts abit like the over head map storage like in a discovery or would it be centre mounted only.

It can be put wherever you want along the roof, as it bolts to the front and back.

there is 3 struts to support the roof, well, not actually supporting it, as it doesnt even touch the roof, but I reckon this box will be structuraly stronger than a strut.

I prefer it center mounted, but it certainly can be fitted where it is nowt, just above drivers seat, however, it could be close to bang your head in there....
but the rear piece could be made flush with the sides, instead of coming down a bit, to accomodate that idea.
