Hi there, I am changing the rear springs on my defender 110 and they don't fit into the dislocation cones. The old springs have a 175 circumference but the new ones have about a 156. When ordering rear springs there are no indications on the circumference just height. Can anybody shed some light on this and what I should be looking for.?

Where did you get the springs? Do you know what springs were on there before? Do you know where the cones came from, I dont think they are a standard fitment.

Genuine springs can be identified by the colour bands on the springs, are there any?

Hi Turboman. The springs I bought from Paddocks, my defender is an old girl 1986/7 it was a V8 but I bought it with a 300tdi in it. As you can imagine she is a mishmash and I think she was ex military, would that account for the massive cones and springs?

Thats a One-Ten, Defenders started a few years later,September 90, I think.

Paddocks sell a lot of springs, I would guees they will be right if you correctly identified the vehicle to them,

Guessing that is the mish mash issue is the root of your problem. but I dont know much about military stuff. A few of the regulars do have ex mil, hopefully one will be along in a minute, may know more.

Hi Turboman,
Thank you for all your help. I don't profess to be an engineer as I am a chef by trade but enjoy the tinkering on my truck. Once again, Than you.

Thanks for that! Nowhere near going over the cone, you could remove the cone, see if it goes in the spring seat alone, although it doesnt look like it will.
Seems to fit in the seat at the bottom, although that looks new as well, did it fit on the old bottom seat?

For the original 110, the following springs were used:

Driver - NRC6388 or NRC6389 for the heavy duty version
Passenger - NRC7000 or NRC6904 for the HD version

I fitted new seats but I will check the old ones for size difference. I guess assumption is the mother of all F, ups

With a thirty year old landy people may have bolted on all kinds of random stuff over the years. Sometimes it is easier to start again and put the whole assembly back to standard.

The 110 typically has bigger springs on the back than the 90. Looks from the picture like you're trying to get 90 springs to fit on a 110.
Hey Brown,
I just checked my order and realised your right, I purchased the 90 springs.. Whata mistaka to mayka..

Thanks to every one concerned new springs now on order.

I noticed this a while ago when comparing my 90 with a friend's 110. His were larger diameter and made of thicker metal, presumably to accommodate a heavier payload.
