Defender nut and bolt rebuild

It’s been a while since I rebuilt my series3 https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/series-3-swb-nut-and-bolt-rebuild.368569/ since then I’ve been looking for my next project. The criteria was quite simple, it had to be a Landrover and registered on Anglesey, how hard could it be ………

If the post title didnt give it a way, yup you may have guessed by now that I have found, purchased and collected a defender 90 registered from nowhere else other than the birth place of Mr Wilks’ dream Anglesey or should I say Ynys Mon ! Let the hammering, swearing and sweating begin…. And yes before you ask in that order

I downloaded the imgur app,
add photos to it from your phone gallery, copy the url of the image,
Then press the little chain link icon (or whatever it is) on the top line (to the right of the 'A') and paste the text into the box.

Now let's see that rust bucket, lol

Wowww. You can’t say that about Anglesey. Well not out loud anyway.

Now that the web page allows me to upload photos let the updates begin, here’s some photos of the strip down

A pleasing test result with the Engine compression tester

That looks to be in good nick ..... just needs attacking with a pressure washer

Engine cleaned, painted, new oil stem seals, new , refurbished fuel pump and injectors, new water pump, cam belt kit, new lift pump and inj pipes

Bulkhead sand blasted, repaired in the usual places pillars, foot wells and around unused wiper arm hole. Braced up with some unistrut and sent to the galvanisers.
Returned from galv, cleaned up holes re tapped.
Next job etch, and prime

axles stripped blasted and painted, new seals, bearings, bolts, discs, swivel kits, gater kits

Brake calipers blasted, painted with HT enamel, although Mrs Hughes wasn’t impressed to find them hanging up in the airing cupboard ! new pistons and seals fitted with some home made stainless steel upper and lower mud guard brackets

All the suspension parts blasted painted and new bushes fitted

Rear tub time, new rear panels fitted and rear quarters reinforced from the inside with some hand made 3mm ali

All the steel cappings and rear corners were blasted and galvanized. Twashed the galv parts prior to fitting. Rear tub etched with 2pk then primed in 2k ready for paint
