I need to replace the lamps with a conversion and I had a suitable replacement idea the RTC4615K kit from paddock, however will I need the plastic headlamp bowl w/fittings pt no S5400?

wouldnt think so, before mine went in for its mot we found the reflective paint in one of the halogen lamps was peeling away and replaced it with a sealed beam unit without having to change the bowls.

No if the bowls and rings (the chances are the ring will be rusted to hell) are in good nick then you do not need to change them, however if the adjustment screw standoff's or the fixing standoff is broken off then it would be worth changing them, it's not a big job. If your bowls and rings are OK then just get the sealed beam to H4 conversion kit, fit the ring onto it and away you go.

If you change the lot, park your Defender somewhere and turn on the headlights, mark where the light sits on dip. Fit the bowls and kit without moving the LR from that position and that gives you lines to align your new lights up to. I counted the planks on a fence, MOTer thought it was a miracle.

I fitted Wipac Crystal with pilot - PM678 - well worth it if you can go the extra £9.
