I've just had the MOT on my '85 110 done. It passed :)

One trip later and I noticed that one headlamp wasn't working, it was at MOT time as I checked and it passed.

It turned out that a wire had fallen out of the connector for the bulb. Whilst getting the headlamp out to discover this I found that the whole assembly was basically knackered. The adjustment screws are a pile of rust as is most of the bezel. The plastic protective boot/cover that should be on the back had been cut mostly off, I assume to allow replacement of the bulb without taking the whole assembly out the front. The reflectors aren't looking the best either.

Basically I'm going to replace both headlamp assemblies. I don't want LED just the normal H4 bulb.

Any recomendations on what to go for? Are there any that don't need the whole unit to be removed out the front to change the bulb?

Cheers

Unfortunately they do rust away ... you can get stainless bezels and fittings ..

I like the look of the standard Quadoptic headlamps but the Crystal do offer an improvement in light ...
Here they are on eBay (there are other sellers)...

You can buy full Bowls or 1/2 bowls or even the 'open' types.
I prefer the full bowl (headlamp out the front to change the bulb).

Would https://www.johncraddockltd.co.uk/da3010ss-headlamp-mounting-kit-ss-bezel-series-and-def.html be OK for the bowls as that says stainless bezel + the lights that you linked to?

Thank you. They don't exactly make the britpart bit clear do they:rolleyes:
I am going to buck the usual trend here and say the britpart plastic bowls are fine. I have them on both my series and my 110 and have had no issues. the 110 has led lights, but the series is still running traditional halogens.

Thank you. I've ordered the stainless steel ones I linked to above and will see how it goes. They will certainly be better than the ones currently on my workbench.

Stainless bezels should be just fine. I fitted Bearmach stainless bezels when the factory originals rotted out at only 6 years old. 6 years later there is no sign of any deterioration in the stainless ones.

I agree, some of their stuff is good (these days) these headlamp kits are and in general thier stainless stuff is OK.
