Hi everyone,

Im fairly new to the landy world and I was looking under my motor(defender 2.5tdi) to see possible oil leaking from the gearbox.

On closer inspection I saw a crack and was wondering if this crack is the cause of the issue? Or is coming from the screw directly above the plug where I saw oil ? It is not leaking a lot, so is it an issue or can it be left with regular topping up of the oil?

Image below showing the crack to the left:

The cracks not the cause of the leak. Maybe rear crank seal or could just be blocked breathers. What oil is leaking? Engine oil, ATF or gear oil?

check gear box level (and change oil regulary)clutch reservoir aned engine as said but desnt look bad at all ,you will never cure all the leaks ,but isnt a problem unless its loosing oil noticeably or leaving puddle

Craigyb Im not entirely sure but i know its not ATF, how do you tell is it the colour?

James I just changed the gearbox oil a few days ago, i dont know if that might be causing it, but to be honest like you said its doesnt seem to be leaking excessively so ill just keep an eye on it for the next few weeks. If it gets worse i might do a bit more investigating.

Cheers guys, big help
