Defender front axle types

Morning All.

Just had some Zu Rims fitted to the 90, (I'll take a couple of pics if anyone's interested). Hit a snag in that the Boost alloys I replaced used spacers, the Zu rims don't and the hub studs on the front axle were too long for the wheel nuts I was using. The hub studs were longer than on the rear axle and the fitter at Simmonites suggested that the axle was an "older" type than for a 300TDi, identified by the longer hub dust cap, hence the longer studs.
I know the 90 has been rebuilt and may have had a replacement axle, and mooching on the web the hub dust cap changed between KA930434 and LA930456.
The question is, are there significant differences between the axles used between the above chassis numbers that I need to be aware of? Is there an easy way of telling which axle I have as the dust caps may just be the wrong ones!

Hope someone can help, even if it is just to lay my mind at rest!

do you have drum brakes on the rear you have the old type your drive members will also tell you. if the drive member is about an inch thick they are the old type with the deep dust caps. if the drive member is only about half an inch thick and the hub cap about 3/4 inch then it is the later axles and are disk braked Jai

I have discs on the rear. The chassis number, according to the V5 is MA..... and so should have the later axle. I know the 90 has had a rebuild so it could have been changed. The dust caps are the deeper type but I guess the deeper type could replace the shallower dust caps, but not vice-versa. I'll check the drive member as you suggest.

Thanks for the response Jai! :)

If your drive membe is the new type somone has just fitted the wrong caps as you say. But if you have the deep flanges you have a late type axle and somone has fitted old type drive members and caps to it. Jai
