Defender diff lock light

Hi my diff lock is on all the time, although when you have it switched off ypu can hear diff lock going in an out. If I play with lever I can get it to go off for a bit. Any body know how to get to the switch or what to try. Thanks adam

What year is the vehicle? Also is it the light that is staying on or is the vehicle actually stuck in diff lock?

It's a 98. No diff lock definatly isn't stuck in as I tries that on some ground humps.

Sorry i should have asked the question what gearbox and transfer box are in it? So youre saying that the light is just staying on then and its definitely not stuck in diff lock?

R380 gearbox not sure or transfer box but its out of a disco because its higher geared. Yeah it's not in diff lock but light says different

switch is easy to get to, on the driver side of the tranny box through the centre access panel from the top.
if your 100% sure its not in diff loc,

you may or may not be able to swap it without removing the tunnel, depends on how tight its ina dn how flexible you are!!

jack one front wheel up ,and if it spins diff lock isnt engaged if it does it is ,dont wind a new switch in too far as this will jam diff selector in the box ,just enough so that selector operates switch

It's definatly not in diff lock so will have a look at the switch on weekend thanks for photos an advise Tim and everyone else.

the photos are of an LT77 gearbox I beleive, but mines and R380 and its in the same place.
