Why wont a Defender bumper fit on a Disco 1? I assume its the spacing of the mountings? Its just I have found a cheap 2nd hand defender winch bumper and it would be handy if i could mod it to fit.

completley different mounts between the two, Disco has the bolts going horizontally, the defender has them vertically... I thought the same when I had my Disco, ended up making a bumper...

easy easy mod. the mounts are exactly the same distance apart, the only difference is fenders are horizontal and discos vertical. I done a standard fender bumper to a disco not long ago. I cut the U shaped mount - just the three sided bit that actually bolts to the disco chassis rails off the back of a disco bumper - not the entire box that they're fixed too, as they wouldn't fit into the back of the standard fender bumper easily. These will then weld directly on top of the fender mounts in the correct orientation, possibly with some stregthening brackets, and it'll be roughly the right distance from the wagon as well. You will want to angle the ends of the bumper in towards the vehicle as well, else its too flat and will look very odd, but this is just four v cuts, lean on it in a vice and a splash of weld.
