I want to buy my Son a Defender 90
The two I have decided on are a 1996 300tdi £6000
and a 2002 TD5 £8000

Both are in fantastic condition, similar spec's and full Mot's

Which one ???

It is to be used on a farm as he is a sheperd.

Jesus these things cost alot.

I will be Part exing my Range rover V8 and both offered similar prices for my car.

300tdi is an older design engine, but one that (for the most part) is devoid of any electronic control. It's reliable, strong, and easy to work on at home, so is ideal for alot of people.

TD5 is electronically controlled, and harder to work on at home, although not impossible, even the electric side of things isn't rocket science, and pretty basic as far as electronic control is concerned. It's a more powerful engine, and has more scope for yet more power with a remap and other tweaks. It's a 5 cylinder engine too, so depending on opinion, it sounds terrific and a little different. Certainly less agricultural in standard form.

Chassis, well to be honest even your 2002 TD5 is 10 years old, so at and over that age it comes down to how it's been treated over the years being linked with condition.
