Hi there, currently i have a freelander 04 plate TDI which is good for the wife and kids apart from costing nearly £1500 when first purchased for new fuel pump and to get all injectors done, it runs and drives well. I will be keeping this.

However i am bored it does not really do what i want it to do, which is be able to chuck very muddy dogs in the back, bricks, blocks just about anything really.

I want some advice i have found a clean ish 73K mile defender 90 300TDI last MOT it went through no problems or advisory notes. I am not a mechanic in anyway but have craved a defender for years any advice will be muchly apprecaited.

Ye buy it ;);););););), I'm definitely no mechanic but I am certainly learning, and Fenders are fairly easy to work on. Have a look around and read some of the threads, anything you want to know there's usually somebody knocking about to answer it. ;);););)

It is customary to introduce yourself in the "introduce yourself" bit:rolleyes::rolleyes:, but :welcome2::welcome2: anyway;)

My advice would be get someone to go along with you who does know a bit about em, cos it's not quite the same as buying an ordinary car. ;)

If you put where you live someone close to ya might even volunteer ;)

Oh and one last thing :welcome2:

check the chassis an bulkhead are solid engine for over heating but 73k it should be ok its low miles for a 300 so it shouldn't have many probs if any check the id of the landy as there are many ringers out there check the year of manufacture behind the front drivers/passenger side wheel .... ie landy is 1998 then it should say 98/ as should the gear box, trans box, an virus parts under bonnet

hope this helps

You have to register first (it's free) and you get access to a printable 9 or 10 page guide.

Only warning I'd give, is don't walk around the vehicle with it - the seller might just think you're paranoid :D

I'd say if the seller was worried about you having a list of things to check. Walk away....................... Fast :D

Take a long chunky flat head screwdriver and a club hammer. Belt anything that looks rusty or waxoyled. If you think the holes you poke in it are too big for you yourself to fix then don't buy it.

Otherwise buy it.

I would add though. Beware of van's that have had windows added ;)

How come?

Yeah, how come?

Nobody has mentioned price. Buy it if its the right price!!

Because if it was originally sold as a van it would not have had VAT paid on it.............I think.

But in any event a van is cheaper than a CSW so like I said beware of retro fitted windows.

Just make sure they've been fitted well and if not that the price reflects that. :D
