defender 90 rear drum to disc brake conversion

this topic may have been allready covered but here goes
i have a defender 90 v8 county 1989 with rear drum brakes is it much of a job to convert to disc brakes ?? what parts do i need apart from the discs and calipers ?
i do have a 90 rear axle of a 2005 defender but not had time to look at the job yet , i would hope its just removal of the drum brakes and back plate and bolt on the caliper mounts and discs but this sounds to easy
anyone help ?:):)

Dunno, I reckn you should just be able to change it. All your is is a long 90 so I think you could change the rear for an old disco1 or RRC rear axle.
One of the other bits you should save when ripping out the 200tdi form an old rotter disco:D:D

Sailsbury axles are the super uber good landy axles, they are the bollox.

I presume that Salisbury axles are not standard on 90 / 110s?

I'll keep an eye out for an axle from a disco.
 
salisbury is or was std on 109 and 110s about 4 x the size of std diff parts and drum to disc is simply a matter of buying and fitting relevant parts which ive done that many i can remember of the top of my head ,for 90 drum you either fit 300 tdi 90 or disco which are the same apart from 3 bolt diff flange on disco which can easily be swapped for four bolt as on 90 ,or fit earlier rrc or 200tdi disco ,but 300s are more likely to be in better condition and will take a wider range of alloys and front could be done later to if wanted,salisburys both rear and front can be fitted to 90s but prop needs altering to fit,all salisburys have 4 pin diffs as std

What is the rough cost to convert to discs?
 
if yours is 110 ,cost depends as i used only std parts new or second hand but off the top of my head about £300-400 with new calipers ,discs,etc ,all parts are just bolt on
 
ive just about finished putting a disco axle on my 90, just waiting for a pair of new calipers to come through the post.

piece of **** to swap them over.
 
I swapped my 88 RRC rear axle in a day.
Took 90 one off, then took off the rrc.
Hardest thing I found was knocking the a-frame joint out, what a cnut!:mad:

Jamesamartin has given you a good list of places to get axles:D
I scrapped the rear axle off the disco I removed the still beating heart form(200tdiD:)
What a doughnut I am, some one could of had that for next to fek all:rolleyes:
