Thought i would start a thread to get an opinion on my lanny.
I recently aquired a 1995 200tdi, with 70,000 miles , payed 4k for it. The body work is spotless and the mechanics are pretty much perfect.
This meant i could start having a bit of fun improving the looks!
I started out with taking off the roof rack, which wasnt really needed for a daily drive. I then went on to give the front abit of a facelift, blackening the plastics on the front, adding some badges ect.
When i bought it it had tired old chequer plating on wing tops, sills and sides. I got masking and sanded this all down and painted it satin black, along with the tired looking silver bumper.
All this work really payed off and the lanny was looking cracking and 10 year younger in no time.

Will try and get some pictures on!
WHen i bought it, it had the worst old seat ive seen in a lanny, they were from an old daihatsu or something and the previous owner had put a false floor in. He had butchered the bulkhead and layed rubbish carpet and wood everywhere with ha false platform in the back aswell, the problem was there was horrible glue everywhere. THe only option was to strip it all out, get the scrapers out and get all the crap out! I had the bulkhead removed completely and a bar fitted which looks very smart in satin black.
The back now has black chequer plate floor and bench liners, looks smart.
We fitted 2 new benches in the back, to get all the lads in. Also had two new front seats made black with blue piping which matches the colour of the car, looks very tasty!!
Thats abouut as far as ive got so far, now looking into getting some nice alloys for the beast!

As i bought it!

Pretty sure its a 200tdi yes, how could find out for sure? ive done about 85 in it easily, and i thought 300tdi had top speed of 80? I will try and get more pics on. Im now undecided about alloys, but modulars seem a bit unpractical for heavy road use

do a search and you will see,

where is reverse?

bottom right and its an R380 gearbox so will be a 300tdi

top left and its a lt77 gearbox so its a 200tdi

85 in an older Defender 90 is not highly recommended - not being a bore and whilst I wouldn't condone breaking the speed limit I'm guilty of doing it in my other vehicles, but if the stopping distance and handling at that speed don't bother you, the noise really should!

I'm not that comfortable over 60 in my 1994 Defender!

you will be lucky to hit 80 in a older defender, my 200tdi managed to get 75 going down a runway (with the wind!) with 235/70 r16s and my speedos spot on, im never going to do it again mind. light bars look cooler, but driving lamps on an a bar are probably more practical.
