had on on mi works 90 at last job
it went trough holes in body and bolte to chassis never tester=t it by rolling it but bounched sides off a few things and it only scratched paint

Whitbread have made cages for donkeys alot of the trials guys use them and they are superb nd quite cheap compared to others. However the external cage by its nature is not a competition cage but protcects the body as best it can

That sounds OK, I'm not into competitions and am just looking to provide extra protection for the landy as much as anything!

at risk of sounding pedantic yes it is
army rally team and most other wrc LR class run wi external cages
whitbreads external cages are M.S.A approved ter F.I.A standards

although paris dakar / rally raid dont like them due to them being less aerodinamic so raising fuel consumption and reducing range

however yer have to try hard ter make a 90 or any other landie less aerodymamic so its pretty much a mute point in my opinion

I'd be very surprised if you turned up to compete in a CCV comp run to ALRC and were allowed to play with a whitbread External cage. I Didn't think they met MSA specs TBH.
Also Whitbread do not advertise their Full external cage as full competition whereas the others to a specific design are sold as Full Competition spec cages.

When I say Full external I mean no rear hoop (to spec) or stays as the OP's. I know the army guys run Internal/external cage but and its a big but they have the internal parts like the rear hoop and upright stays to MSA Spec as all competition cages must have unless type approved. The fact that it bolts through a roof to get over the front hoop as long as its to spec (bolts, spreader plates etc) is here nor there.

I dont want to (or know) the technicals, but the cages by malc advertised as 'external' are NOT comp spec. if you want a comp spec or space frame, he will make you one. but the external only do not meet the requirements due to lack of internal braceing.

Malcom has built many many cages and he is a top bloke even letting me know a get out/cheat for complying with ALRC regs for a steering column over the phone and not really knowing me (only met him at a few comps years ago). He was just glad to help. I do know that his External cages as the OP has posted a pic of are not type approved as this is a Huge Huge Expense which is not justified because he also sells competition cages at a quite reasonable cost.
