Hello all

I have recently moved from the UK to South Africa on an 18 month secondment with work.

Having always wanted a Defender, I have recently purchased a 1998 Defender 90 2.8i. This is a model specific to South Africa and was built during BMWs ownership of Land Rover in the late 1990s.

The car is absolutely fantastic and I am already exploring options for bringing it back to the UK in 14 months time.

I am wondering if anyone knows if this car would pass emissions tests in the UK? The vehicle cost £30 to tax for the year here in Stellenbosch, I know it will be much more than that in the UK. Currently I am getting about 8km/ litre, but fuel is costing me 55p a litre, so not much of a concern, but obviously a challenge if I was to bring it to the UK.

Any comments/ thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers

Kenny

I think it should be ok as its an older car and that engine is in various bmw's over here
tax will be £230 for 12 months and fuel in my town is £1.06/litre!

Is that 2.8 petrol? Saw one on eBay just before Christmas and it tickles me. Love a 6 pot bmw engine. Would be interested to know what they go for out there??

Thanks for the replies. I am currently looking at shipping options to get it home, but also trying to convince my girlfriend that we should drove it home through Africa!

My car has 271,000km on the clock. I paid £6,500 for it, which was pretty much spot on with regards to other vehicles of the same age and mileage
