Whats your normal running temperature.?!

It would be interesting in finding out the average running temperature on the road under.

I'll start of, well mine sits just above half way up, although swiftly jumps into the orange if I apply my headlights

Mines sits just under half way (300 tdi 90) when towing sits the same as your pic, on. Long hill can climb if I'm not carefull

mine sits just under halfway normally.

I had the problem a while back that if I switched headlights/heater on the temp needle went up. after a #### load of hassle turns out to be an earthing problem with front bulkhead ;)

This is becoming quite alarming all you chaps claiming that your temp sits just below halfway. I wonder why mine is siting so high.?! There are no obvious leaks evident and I have also recently replaced the Heater Matrix and removed all the air locks - No oil warning lights present

Would this be the earth you are referring to.?! I cant locate any further earth on the bulkhead, certainly nothing behind instrument panel.

It's the gearbox earth I had the same problem on my 300 would go into red when headlights were on

Look on the gearbox x member you will see a small hook type thing attached to the chassis take it off give it a good clean , get the copper shinny bolt it back on an give it a good hit with a hammer so it has a good contact

Took me months to find out wot it was

I can't find the thread as I'm on me phone

Try searching overheating when headlights on

Somethink like that

Earthing on a 300tdi is,
Main one from transfer box to chassis & chassis to battery
The earth for the dash/guages etc is on the bulkhead under the bonnet, about 1/3 of the way from the drivers side, behind the airbox.
Final one centre of chassis for rear loom. (I never did find this one, I ended up putting a new earth form the rear lights on.)

Fix the earth first (which is causing the jump with lights on I would imagine) and see if it reads better then, mine sits dead on 1/2 unless towing up a big hill then it raises a bit, but not much.
Mine started running where yours is just before the rad blocked/was knackered, but like I said, sort the earthing out first.

Mine (300tdi 110) also runs just under half when moving and halfway when stationary. Not sure if it is right but seems to be the consensus in this thread.
